Avant leur sédentarisation par le gouvernement canadien à la fin des années 1950, les Inuit enterraient leurs morts à proximité de leurs campements éparpillés le long des côtes. En raison du permafrost qui empêche de creuser le sol, les tombes consistaient en un amoncellement de grosses pierres censées protéger les corps contre les animaux sauvages. Aujourd'hui, les morts sont enterrés dans le cimetière du village. Depuis la christianisation des Inuit par les missionnaires catholiques ou anglicans, les tombes portent une croix.

Au Nunavut (Arctique canadien), pendant les mois d'été, la pêche à iqaluk (omble chevalier, Salvelinus alpinus), à la cuiller ou au filet, fait partie des occupations préférées des habitants des campements éparpillés sur le territoire. Elle est pratiquée sans distinction de sexe ou d'âge, avec grande assiduité. La photo montre une jeune femme gardant son enfant au chaud dans un vêtement à capuche appelé amauti dont la coupe rappelle la tenue traditionnelle. Le poisson est consommé crû, bouilli, séché, plus rarement grillé, sur place mais aussi partagé au retour au village.

Dans l'Arctique oriental canadien, le caribou tuktu (Rangifer tarandus) reste le gibier terrestre le plus apprécié des Inuits, tant pour sa chair et sa graisse délicieuses que pour sa peau, indispensable à la confection de chauds vêtements d'hiver.
Autrefois essentiellement collective sur les lieux de passage traditionnels des caribous (lacs, cours d'eau) au cours de leurs migrations saisonnières, la chasse au caribou est aujourd'hui individuelle, grâce à l'utilisation de moyens de locomotion (canots équipés de moteurs hors-bord puissants, motoneiges) et d'équipements de chasse (carabines à lunette) très performants.
Sur la photo, la phase finale de la poursuite à pied dans la toundra d'un mâle adulte (pangniq), catégorie de caribou la plus recherchée pendant les mois d'été car au mieux de sa forme physique et pourvue d'abondantes couches de graisse. Blessé, il a cherché à s'échapper dans la mer. Refoulé vers le rivage, il sera achevé d'un coup de carabine.

Lorsqu'ils ont capturé un ours polaire, les Inuit prélèvent la peau qui, avant d'être utilisée comme matelas ou comme matériau pour la confection des vêtements, ou avant d'être vendue, doit être travaillée. En premier lieu, elle est séchée, côté poils à l'abri du soleil – c'est ce que l'on voit sur la photo. Ensuite, les femmes la grattent afin d'enlever la graisse et de l'assouplir.
La peau d'ours a des qualités spécifiques : chaude, elle est également imperméable.
