Chaque année, à la fin novembre, les Indiens Yucuna organisent les danses des poissons (jiña yale) qui durent deux jours et deux nuits. Cette photo représente le bal qui eut lieu près de La Pedrera sur le bas du Caqueta (en Amazonie colombienne) les 18 et 19 novembre 1998. Selon le mythe d’origine de cette fête, ce seraient les poissons qui auraient directement enseigné les danses et les chants de la cérémonie aux Indiens Arewetu (une tribu aujourd'hui disparue) après que ces derniers leur avaient dérobé leur coffret à plumes. Ces plumes, portées par les danseurs, sont considérées comme sacrées et ne peuvent absolument pas être touchées par les femmes ni par les non initiés. Elles sont considérées comme "l'incarnation" des poissons aidant les danseurs à se rappeler leurs chants. En dehors des chants propres à la fête, chaque danseur invité doit échanger des dialogues cérémoniels avec les hommes représentant les familles des hôtes et cela à différentes étapes du rituel : à l’arrivée des invités, lors des dons de nourriture et de coca à mâcher, et au moment du départ. Ces dialogues rappellent les règles de la cérémonie : les hôtes doivent offrir nourriture et coca en abondance, tandis que les danseurs doivent exécuter leurs chants et danses exactement comme le faisaient leurs ancêtres, supposés avoir été également invités pour les regarder et les juger. On dit que tout manquement aux règles peut entraîner leur malédiction…

Le Dongba du petit village de Wumu revêt à l'occasion du grand culte aux ancêtres naxi du Sacrifice au Ciel sa tenue cérémonielle. Elle est constituée d'une longue bande de tissu noir enroulée autour de la tête, d'une longue robe rouge, d'une veste et d'un long collier de perles blanches. L'attirail des Dongba est très onéreux, car ce dernier doit également se procurer tambours, vases, papier manuscrit et accessoires nécessaires à l'accomplissement de leur rôle de spécialiste rituel. Les manuscrits naxi dont couverts d'une écriture pictographique dite dongba qui servent d'aide mnémotechnique au Dongba tout au long du rituel.
